Last Thursday, September 28, was Abortion Rights Day. We’d like to remind you that unfortunately, in Canada, abortion services are still limited. In Canada, not every city has an abortion clinic. The problem is that women don’t have quick access to them. Many of them have to travel several kilometers to get to a clinic.
Also, because there aren’t enough clinics, many women have to wait a few weeks for an appointment. This can lead to a number of emotions, such as anxiety and dissatisfaction with services. They’re right to feel that way!
In Canada, abortion services are still limited, but it’s worth remembering that in many countries, women have no access at all, as it’s an illegal practice. Many women die around the world because they go to unsafe abortion facilities. It is also possible that they decide to terminate the pregnancy and use practices on their own that may be life-threatening.
For all these reasons, we must continue to fight for abortion rights!
On Thursday September 28, we took part in a small symbolic collective action to highlight the right of access to abortion in front of the Sherbrooke courthouse.
It’s important to remember that one in two pregnancies is unplanned, and one in three women will have an abortion in her lifetime. Abortion is an essential service!
